Happy Juneteenth

Juneteenth ( June 19) is also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day and Emancipation Day. It is not a national holiday, but most states recognize it either as a state holiday or special commemoration day. Texas recognized it as a state holiday in 1980. Texans share a piece of history with Army Major General Gordon Granger who rode on horseback into Galveston on June 19, 1865 and announced the end of the Civil War. Currently this historical date is celebrated with parades, rodeos, barbeques and gatherings large and small. Red velvet cake, Texas hot sauce, hot links/sausage and strawberry pie are favorites that may be served during this celebratory feast.

So join in the celebrations safely this year with your friends and family!
